Rocking Jo’s Mo

Getting back in sync with my love. You guessed it, socks!! I finally finished the Pomatomus. Will I knit that pattern again? Not anytime soon. I really love the result but for some reason I was in a slump after finishing up the first one.

I’m also happy to report that my lil’ wee cousin will be getting her socks. But I have to wait and knit up footies for her brothers too so they don’t feel left out. One pair down, two more to go…

The jumbleness of two at a time. I really need to crank out gifts and this way I’m sure to finish both socks and they fit the same. yay!! This is my first try at knitting from both ends, yeah, messy, messy, but I think I’ve figured it out.

Socks…

I’ve finally finished my Noro Kureyon socks. Too bad I have to cast on again so I’d get a pair instead of two single socks. Overall knitting two socks at a time was interesting. It took a bit of untangling and figuring out what went where but once I did, the process came naturally since I’ve been knitting with the magic loop method for some time now. Okay…on to the Noro sock yarn. Hmmm… It’s true what everyone’s been saying. This stuff is not soft, really scratchy, and lots of thick and thin spots. Some of the thick spots were almost worsted in size. I thought I wouldn’t be able to work with it because I prefer softer supples yarns, but I stayed with it and it wasn’t so bad. What kept me going were the colors. I wanted to see what would come next and how it would look. Though, I don’t like how thick the colors are. LOL, I’m so picky. Anywho, for those interested here are two socks to check out how a certain colorway would knit up.

Oh, yeah I finished my Rainbow Monkey socks awhile back, but never got around to posting them since I’ve been in a non-blogging state of mind.

And another pair of plain stockinette socks that have been waiting forever for its mate. I practiced the short row heel using Cat Bordhi’s concealed wrap method. Check out her youtube videos Here and Here. They helped me a lot. The process was interesting, but I’m still not super happy with short rows…

Off to finish up my long forgotten Pomo…ugh I think I am starting to have a really bad case of startitis…and it bums me out since I was good at finishing things. I still haven’t even touched the baby sweater and all I have left is the freaking collar. What is up with that?!?

New look, New knit?

Thought I’d change up the look of the site a bit. Maybe it’ll go better with my new adventurous self. ehh…who knows. Anywho, this is my first non-sock project that isn’t a scarf or hat and I’m super excited. My very good gal pal is expecting and I thought this was the perfect time to learn some new techniques and to get over my fear of actual garments. So here you have my almost finished Child’s Placket Sweater

Child's Placket Sweater

I couldn’t wrap my head around the neck part, so it’s gonna have to be fudged. I’m gonna try to do the top in the yellow so it’ll at least have some balance. I had many hair pulling moments with this project but after attaching the arms and kitchenering them I’m a-ok now.

books

Yay! for new books, but wait!?! What’s that lurking behind the fun new books? Yes…sadly I have to buck down and start prepping for the GRE… Hopefully I’ll get a decent score.

Do not fret, I love my knitting. I’m flipping through 2-at-a-Time Socks and there are some interesting patterns. Sooo…do I really need this book? Probably not. There’s a wealth of free information on the web but I’m just a huge book hoarder. Take a look, wha-da-ya think?

2 at once

Sadly I’m using two different balls of Noro Kureyon sock yarn so I’ll have to do another set of socks but then again, that means I’ll have two new pairs. Yippee!! I thought I wouldn’t like working with the Noro because it isn’t a soft yarn. But I’m really enjoying the whole process. Experiencing a new technique and new type of wool.

More stitch marker fun…I just love working with my hands.

Green Vacation

Have a great rest of the weekend!!

When I need a knitting pick me up…

I like to turn to the many amazing blogs out there for some inspiration. I love to look at everyone’s finished works. There are times I feel like I don’t want to knit, but when I see a great photo of some fabulous socks, I just have this uncontrollable urge to either finish one of my socks, or start another. Some blogs make me wish I could knit faster so I’d eventually end up with a whole arsenal of great knits. I suppose if I keep practicing I’ll get there.

A few pick me ups. They knit so fast!

I’ve been on a sock knitting frenzy but sadly they are all single and lonely. The reason for all these singles? I really wanted to see how my hand dyed yarn would look knit up since my first one way back when didn’t turn out so well. Anywho, I totally dig my happy rainbow colorway. Yay! I used the Monkey pattern without the purling and so…I dub thee…Rainbow Monkey (If you have kids or love the cartoon network, this is definitely a reference to the KND)

Single Socks

(Left to Right: Plain stockinette with Regia, Pomatomus, Raninbow Monkey)

I picked up a cute Della Q pouch project bag at yarn4socks.com and it occurred to me that I haven’t had a contest in awhile. So here is a semi-half-@ss contest for ya.

Della Q Pouch

It’s just a silly guessing game. All you have to do is guess which sock mate is in the pouch.

Is it the Rainbow Monkey, Pomatomus, or colorful Regia?

As always, if there are many correct guesses, the names will be put through a random generator.

Let’s have this contest end on Saturday night 11:59pm Central 5/3/08. Winner will be announce on Sunday. (hehe this will give me an opportunity to blog more than just once in two weeks. hmm yeah, I need to blog more. wha-da-ya think? lol)

Have a wonderful rest of the week!

ETA: How could I have forgotten to mention the prize?!? Ya’ll should know by now, it’s gonna be a delicious pick of sock yarn.
