Squares for a cause

blocking

My first sock yarn square for the Michelle project.
If you have left over superwash sock yarn definitely think about joining up.
The pattern used is from Knit me a River.

I’m on a my second one. Ohhh be sure that the square measures about 9″. I had to stretch my square a bit to hit that size.

Isn’t my board spiffy? I picked it up at JoAnn for $8 and some change. It was on sale, lucky me!!

BTW, I was wondering what I should do about the hole in the middle of the square. I left a tail to sew it up but I don’t know if I should keep the hole. What are your thoughts?

“You spin me right round, baby…

Right round, like a record, baby, right round, round round.”  Pretty much sums up what’s been going on with me.

Wool and Spindle Spinning

Here are some finished spins.

First Handspun Niddy Noddy and Drop Spindle

Both rovings purchased from Alpaca Direct. Decent priced rovings for practice before I move on to the fancier handpainted rovings found on Etsy. I picked up the drop spindle and niddy noddy from Ma and Pa’s Spindles. I heart my niddy noddy, it’s just so cute and small.

Spinning hasn’t totally be on my mind. I’ve been bitten by the scarf bug once again. I’ve been in love with Argosy since I first saw it but thought it would be to hard to knit. Now with a bit of experience it’s just a piece o’cake.

Noro Silk Garden Lite

2 skeins of delicious Noro Silk Garden Lite. My first time working with this stuff and I like it! I enjoy how the color repeats are so long and pretty.

I’ve also been dreaming of a sweater just for me. I have the materials, I just have to get to it. One day…

Friends = Awesome!!

I am so luck to have such great friends.

The amazing Mrs. B of Bockstark (Knits) Spins sent me this amazingly lovely handdyed and handspun piece of goodness as a thank you gift. It’s so fabulous that it’s given me the urge to learn to spin. (More of that later…

Woolly Goodness from Mrs B

Scrumptious? Yes!! It’s fingering/sport weight and is superwash. Yay!!

This is another super over due thank you to my very wonderful gal pal Haley for thinking of me when she went on her Alaskan cruise. A perfect gift for you knitter friend…

Alaskan gift

Sock yarn and wonderful handmade soap wrapped in wool. How cool is that?

Simple Knitting

I enjoy hats, well, more like I have a love and hate relationship with them. I love the look, but hate the look on me. I have an odd shaped head so every time I wear a hat/beanie, I look like a ridiculous alien. Therefore I hardly knit them.

But they are so quick to knit and well, when you want to try out a new brand of yarn (new to me yarn) such as Cascade 220 Superwash, you go right ahead a pick a simple yet textured hat. The Marsan Watchcap was perfect. Not too much and just enough to keep me going. Plus, I was able to knit up something for my little brother.

Final thoughts: I really like Cascade 220 and will definitely use it on more items especially since I can get it in the superwash variety. I wasn’t too big a fan of ktbl’s but it does give the hat that “pop” factor so I can live with that. When we first picked the color out on the Webs webpage, we thought we were getting a medium gray, but turns out, it’s a dark heathered gray/green. We still like it.

Currently working on: A mate for this simple sock.

Opaling around

My first pair of Opal socks just for me. The last time I worked on a pair of Opals was for my cousin a year ago. And since my stash has grown to an unmanageable size I really had to shop from the stash. This was from my earlier days of sock knitting, wow, come to think of it, I’ve had this in there for almost 3 years, wow! Anywho, sometimes simple is the way to go.

I hope everyone has a wonderful week!!
